MOHATTA ABAYA
- Description
The Mohatta Abaya carries the warmth of heritage woven gently into everyday life — rich in colour, memory, and craftsmanship.
Named after Karachi’s iconic Mohatta Palace, the piece brings together textiles and traditions gathered from across regions and generations. Traditional Sindhi Ajrak block print cotton unfolds across the fabric in intricate patterns, each motif carrying the rhythm and artistry of hand-printing techniques preserved over centuries. Paired with softened European linen and finished with Indian block printed cotton cuffs, the abaya feels layered not only in texture, but in story.
The deep red tones feel grounding and full of warmth — reminiscent of sun-warmed earth, spice markets at dusk, and faded architectural walls holding years of history within them. The fabric moves with gentle structure, soft against the skin yet substantial enough to feel comforting and present.
There is something timeless about the Mohatta. The silhouette is relaxed and fluid, allowing the craftsmanship and textile character to speak quietly for themselves. Worn slowly, it becomes more personal over time — shaped by movement, memory, and the rituals of everyday dressing.
Every piece is handcrafted to order in Waddesdon, England, where the fabrics are carefully washed, line dried, and prepared by hand before production begins. Slight variations in texture and print are embraced as part of the garment’s individuality — evidence of the artisan’s hand behind every detail.
A piece created for those drawn to softness, culture, and the beauty of things made with care.

What we did: All the materials used have been hand selected carefully for their high quality and character. Prior to production, the cotton has had a delicate hand wash with salt and vinegar to lock in the dyes. The fabric is then line dried and then checked thoroughly. This process takes 24 hours to ensure the cloth is ready to be turned into your beautiful abaya.
Any imperfections are natural characteristics of the materials and not considered as faults, but the beauty of the artisans' craftsmanship.
