Earth Day 2025
Theme: Our Power, Our Planet™
Since 1970, Earth Day has been a global advocate for the health of the planet, calling for protection of our:
- Air
- Oceans
- Soil
- Eco systems
- Wildlife
- Human health
22nd April, 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, with this year's focus being renewable energy. We are calling out on behalf of Earth Day, and for the sake of a better future, solutions for clean, inexpensive, and unlimited energy for the entire planet, through renewable solar, wind and other technologies within our reach.
Triple Renewable Energy by 2030
"We are calling for renewable energy generation, globally, to be tripled by 2030. The production and use of renewable energy transcends economic systems, political borders and political parties, demonstrating a universal appeal"

Remarkable Renewable Facts
Uruguay has transformed its energy sector, moving from being dependant on oil imports, to generating 98% of its electricity from renewable sources.
India has set ambitious goals to aim to achieve 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
In Europe - Denmark generates 50% of its electricity by wind turbines,.
By 2026, wind energy will power:
- 30% of the electricity in Spain,
- 17% of the electricity of the Netherlands,
- and 23% of the electricity needs of Germany.
The Health Benefits of Clean Energy
There are many health benefits of opting for clean energy, which are listed on Earthday.org. A couple of them stood out to us:
Women's Health
Women are especially vulnerable to the adverse effects of air pollution and water contamination, with these threats linked to an increased risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian diseases, and complications with maternal health.
Mental Health
Mental health can be improved by reducing the stress and anxiety linked to pollution, climate change, noise pollution, and environmental disasters.

"Renewable energy sources - which are available in abundance all around us, provided by the sun, wind, water, waste, and heat from the Earth – are replenished by nature and emit little to no greenhouse gasses or pollutants into the air.”
- United Nations
Where does the UK stand in all of this?
There has been a dramatic decrease in cost of manufacturing solar panels, with solar module prices fallen by up to 93% between 2010 and 2020. There are plenty of adverts in the UK around solar energy, however is the UK doing enough to help protect the planet?
Rainwater Harvesting at AYWA
We are proud to be residing at The Mill in Waddesdon, once a corn mill supplying grain for animal feeds. When we moved into the attic over two years go, the largely unchanged features of the late 19th century structure, and abundant light pouring in caught our attention - it felt like home.
Rainwater harvest tank in far right corner
Then we discovered from the landlord that he had installed a water tank in the attic to harvest rainwater. We admire the approach to promoting more environmentally friendly and sustainable practices. We love the initiative of utilising the rainwater, since this is something that is guaranteed in the UK. Rainwater harvesting tanks provide significant benefits, including water cost saving, conservation of water resources and mitigating flood risks.
I have asked my landlord about solar power energy, and great news! He is looking into it and I cant wait!
Our Energy Supplier
At home, we have recently switched our energy supplier to Octopus Energy, with award-winning customer service and innovative green energy offers, while building a more sustainable energy system for tomorrow.
Our Continued Actions
At AYWA, we are always mindful of the delicate world that we live in, and continue to strive in better practices. The key is to to learn, implement the learnings into our daily lives, and then share the learnings with you all.
What are we doing to help the planet?
Zero waste initiative
An initiative we are proud of. We continue to keep all our fabric remnants at the studio, and then utilise these to create other beautiful and consciously crafted products.
Eco-friendly packaging
We make a fuss over our abayas and consciously not into excessive packaging. We mindfully pack your orders in tissue paper with cute stickers, then into brown postal boxes, sealed with water-based tape - making our packaging recycle-friendly.
Natural materials
We are gently navigating our journey towards a more holistic approach, carefully sourcing non-synthetic materials to handcraft our abayas. Its an ongoing process, and we are very selective of the suppliers we source from.
Wellbeing
Health and wellbeing is so important to us, and that's one of the messages that we are striving to advocate. With our clients at the heart of our collections, we only create pieces that are not only beautiful, but also good for you, and we don't settle for anything less. We are working on a learning currently about the connection between the clothes we wear and the human body - I am very much looking forward to sharing that with you.
'Lets Renew Our Intentions'
Help us to create awareness this Earth Day 2025, by sharing our learnings with your loved ones. There's a saying - 'We belong to the Earth, the Earth doesn't belong to us'. Let us all come together to help build a healthy, sustainable, equitable and prosperous future for all of us.
I always say to those I have a dialogue with - By making even small changes, we are championing a positive impact for the environment.
In 2025, join us to embrace a powerful and renewable future. It's Our Power, it's Our Planet.
