Press Release: Launch of AYWA London's Spring/Summer 2025 Abaya Collection - "Joy"

AYWA is proud to unveil its highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2025 abaya collection, "Joy", a celebration of South Asia's rich heritage and the timeless joys of life.  Drawing inspiration from the vibrant culture, ancient traditions, and royal grandeur of South Asia, the collection comprises of exclusive abayas and kaftans, and revives the abaya as a luxurious, statement piece for the modern woman.

Joy is a collection that showcases the harmonious blending of South Asian brocades, rare vintage trims, and delicate European linens. The juxtaposition of various weaves, textures, patterns, and colours creates a dynamic and visually striking narrative that represents the diverse world that we live in.

"I want people to recognise that there isn't just one mainstream representation of modesty, and there isn't just one conventional way to wear the abaya.  I want to encourage that we come from vast backgrounds and that we should be able to celebrate our beautifully diverse and rich cultures".

Waqaas Ahmed - Founder and Creative Director of AYWA

At the heart of this collection is an emphasis on colour, which holds great significance in South Asian culture. Bold fuchsia pinks, emerald greens, and electric blues are paired with more muted, earthy tones like pistachio green, deep burgundy, and dried henna.  These are some of the hues that are symbolic to the joy and positive energy of life, evoking emotions and representing different aspects of South Asian culture and its significance.

In a ground-breaking move, AYWA London introduces a non-conventional presentation for this collection. The abayas are paired with traditional South Asian garments such as shararah trousers, kameezes, brocade shawls and the saree, offering a unique fusion of styles that reflect the depth and beauty of Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi fashion history. The looks are finished with ornate and dramatic jewellery pieces from India, adding a regal touch that invokes the splendour of Mughal, Nawab, and noble attire.

Joy is not just a collection; it is an artistic revival of the opulent culture of South Asia. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant Indian paintings of the Mughals, Nawabs, and royalty, each piece in this collection is designed to make the wearer feel like a modern-day queen, draped in the elegance and grandeur of the past while embracing the future of fashion and timeless elegance.

The collection is currently available on www.aywa.co.uk or by-Appointment only at the AYWA Studio in Waddesdon.
